Abstract

289,116. Salt Union, Ltd., Plumbridge, D. V., and Gibbs, W. E. Dec. 23, 1926. Spray evaporators. - Liquids e.g. brine, are evaporated by spraying them while hot in countercurrent to a relatively cool current of gas which is passed through a cooler to deposit moisture and then recirculated. The liquid is pumped by a pump 10 through a heater 9 to spray nozzles 1. The falling spray meets an upward stream of air drawn by a fan 4 over cooling coils 6 on which the entrained moisture is deposited. The solids produced by the evaporation are removed on conveyers 2, 3. In a modification a multiple effect is obtained by circulating the liquid to be evaporated in the next effect through the coils 6.
