Abstract

288,992. General Air Filters Corporation, (Assignees of Dauphinee, G. S.). April 18, 1927, [Convention date]. Dust-collectors. - Dust is separated from air &c. in apparatus employing plates coated with oil &c., the plates being formed throughout with slits 2. Fig. 3, and alternate grooves and ridges 5, 6, Figs. 3 and 5. The intermediate product in the manufacture of expanded metal may be employed. The plates may be bent or zig-zag and the air flows along the channels left between adjacent parallel plates, a part of the air flowing through the slots. Fig. 1 shows a filtering unit formed of baffle plates B disposed between flashings C, D, the front flashing C being removable and the rear one forming a support for the plates. Oil is supplied from a distributor A, and collects in a reservoir R from which it is returned after removal of mud by a conveyer H. When used in a ventilator system closed down at night, the stoppage of the ventilator fan may start the oil pump, from which the conveyer is driven through reduction gear. The baffle plates are spaced by flanged slotted plates 19, Fig. 12, and may be enclosed in casings covered with expanded metal; the flanges 21 prevent oil from being carried away by the current.
