Abstract
288,744. Bradshaw, G. Jan. 24, 1927. Amusement apparatus. - A coin-freed apparatus for provid. ing amusement comprises an indicating means moved through a pre-arranged sequence of indications, which is repeated after a predetermined number of coins have been inserted, combined with mechanism for returning variable quantities of coins at irregular intervals, which coincide with prearranged indications, the arrangement being such that a user can ascertain from the indications the number of coins that will be returned and the sequence of their return. Coins are inserted through a slot 7 into rearwardly inclined radial slots in a coin wheel 14 mounted on a shaft 10. The wheel 14 is rotated step-by-step by a tongue 24 from a plate 22 engaging the coin, the plate being rocked against the action of a. return spring 70 by a. thumb lever 26 having a pin 29 to engage the plate. A flange 18 of the wheel has teeth 20 which are engaged by a cylinder 42 on a lever 41 controlled by a spring 44, this lever allowing the wheel 14 to advance one tooth at a time. Some of the slots 15 have radial continuations 14<a> through which the coins in those slots fall to a money box when the wheel 14 has turned sufficiently. The coins in the other slots are returned at irregular intervals. These coins are allowed to return to a tray 9 by an eccentrically pivoted plate 46 having an edge 53 which is engaged by pins 51 secured at intervals between the teeth 20 of the flange 18. The coins are positively ejected, when the trip plate 46 uncovers the slots 15, by a plate 55 entering a recess at the back of the slots to engage the coins therein. The shaft 10 carries a gear wheel 37 meshing with a pinion 32 on a shaft 30 carrying an indicator 35. The wheel 37 is loose on its shaft and is driven by an arm 38 engaging a spring buffer so as to allow oscillation of the indicator 35. A brake 81 damps the oscillations of the indicator, which passes in front of a window 5 to show what coins, if any, will be returned at the, next operation of the machine. The indicator is marked with the names of stocks or shares, and the casing of the machine has spaces 6, 8 for labels bearing the names of the shares in their sequence, and showing the number of coins to be returned for a particular share. A revolution counter 57 is provided to show an attendant how many sequences have been passed through.
