Abstract

287,467. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Abbott, C. C.). March 19, 1927, [Convention date]. Resistance ovens.- Short metallic members 11 are clamped in staggered relation to sheathed heating resistances so as to form an elongated support therefor. Ribs 15 on the members increase the radiating surface. Circumferential strengthening ribs, 20, 22 are provided at the centre and the ends of the members. Two resistance elements may be used, the elements being inter-connected electrically at one end, by a conductor housed in a cap 33. Each element comprises a metallic sheath 26 containing powdered magnesium oxide 28 in which a helical resistance wire 29 is embedded. Terminal pins 45 make contact with the ends of the resistances. The members 11 on opposites sides of the resistances are secured together and clamped to the resistances by bolts 12 and form a rigid elongated heater. They are particularly adapted for use in baking ovens and may be inserted through short pipe lengths in the oven wall and supported at spaced intervals throughout their length. A metal tube 37 containing powdered magnesium oxide and provided with end closure plates 40, 44 is clamped to the heater at the terminal end.
