Recording particular operations. - A time recording apparatus for use in connection with electrical tramway, railway and like systems' comprises means mounted on the vehicle and actuated automatically by a temporary interruption in the electrical driving circuit for recording on a clock driven drum the time when the vehicle passes a given point along the route. As shown in Figs. 1, 3 and 5, a recording drum a<2> is driven by gearing a from a clock controlled spindle a<1> and the marker, constituted by a roller c<6>, is movable across the drum by means of a screw B operated by gearing b in mesh with gearing a. The lever c<5> carrying the marking roller is pivotally mounted on a sleeve c<1> projecting from a plate c<2> and slidably mounted on a rod c<3>; on the sleeve is also pivoted a member c formed with a half-nut C engaging the screw B. An inking roller c' suspended by a link from the lever c<5> is maintained by gravity in contact with the marking roller and to the lever c<5> is pivoted a catch c<9> for the purpose of moving the roller to inoperative position and disengaging the nut C. The screw B and rod c<3> are slidably mounted in bearings on the machine frame the amount of movement being regulated by an adjustable stop b' and blocks b<1>, b<2> secured to the rod c<3>. Attached to the block b<1> is a lever b<4> pivoted on a rod b<5> to which is also pivoted a spring- controlled arm b<6> the lever and arm being connected at the free ends to the armature b' of an electro magnet b<8> in the driving circuit of the vehicle when the circuit is temporarily interrupted as by the trolley of the tram &c., passing over a dead section the electromagnet is disengaged and causes a movement of the lever b<4> to displace the screw B and produce a horizontal mark on the record drum. Means may be provided for automatically returning the marker to the left after traversing the drum.
