Abstract
287,266. Armstrong, J. J. V., (Union Special Machine Co.). Jan. 13,1927. Frames.-In a machine adapted for sewing tubular articles a substantially horizontal supporting frame 3, carrying the main shaft 4, supports at one end an inclined depending member 7, and at the other end a laterally projecting housing 12 in which the needlebar 13 reciprocates, whilst a work arm 8 projects from the lower end of the member 7 in a plane parallel to the vertical plane through the main shaft and extending beneath the housing. The support 1 of the frame 3 and the member 7 are hollowed as indicated at 11, 10 to admit the arm of an operator. Chain-stitching; needles, driving.-The needlebar 13, which in the machine described carries a pair of needles, is actuated by a link 17, lever 16, link 20 and crank 18 on the main shaft. The two loopers are carried by a shaft 23 which is actuated by a crank 24 on the main shaft connected by a link 25 to an arm on the shaft 23. Endwise movement of the shaft 23 is effected by a pitman co-operating with an eccentric on the main shaft and connected to a lever 27 from which a link 30 extends to a sleeve 31 mounted between collars 32 on the shaft 23. Feed by dogs.-The feed-bar 34 is supported on a lever 36 and has a sliding engagement with a pin 37. Its endwise feed movements are conveyed by a link 38 adjustably connected to a member projecting from the crank 27. The vertical movements of the feed-bar are effected by an eccentric-driven pitman 40 connected to a rocking lever 41 connected by a link 42 to the lever 36. Specifications 144,745 and 253,620 are referred to.
