Thermionic amplifiers.-In order to preserve stability over a wide range of tuning adjustments, two or more high-frequency stages V1, V2 are coupled together by means of variometers M1, M2 shunted by fixed condensers C1, C2, and the anode voltage is supplied through chokes K1, K2. Variable coupling-condensers C4, C5 are inserted between the anodes and the variometers. The input circuit to the firts valve comprises series condensers C6, C7 providing an intermediate serial connection, and a variometer M3 and fixed condenser C3. In the variometer M1 the centre coil is tapped to the anode of the preceding valve V1, whilst in the case of the variometer M2 the centre coil is connected to the grid of the following valve V3 in order to minimize detector damping. Or the electrode connections may be made to the shunt condensers.
