Abstract

286,545. Kinvall, H. July 25, 1927. Lock-stitching by shuttles; feed by awls.-A straight hooked needle 1 is adapted to penetrate into the work-support 2 without projecting therefrom, and the support is provided with a recess 3 adjoining the stitch hole 27 in order that the thread 6 may be laid in the hook by a guide 4. The guide 4 and thread deflector 5 are actuated in known manner. The bar 20 carrying the awl 26, and the needle-bar 23 are arranged side-byside in a frame 24 which is moved laterally for feeding purposes. Both bars are actuated by single eccentric or crank on the main shaft 9 through a rod 12 and an arm 11 pivoted at 13. A link 14 connects the arm 11 with a bell-crank 16 pivoted at 18, and connected by a link 19 with the awl carrier 20. A second link 15 connects the arm with a bell-crank 17 pivoted at 21, and connected by a link 22 with the needle-bar 23. The linkages are arranged to give the necessary dwells while the work is being fed and while the thread is being carried around the shuttle.
