Elements moving always in one plane, rotating; optical-projection apparatus, applications of.-In optical-projection apparatus in which transparancies mounted on an intermittently rotated carrier are brought in turn into the light beam, the transparency being projected is rotated so as to produce a rotating image on a cloud. Transparencies in the form of stencils 9 are mounted in circular frames 7 having a peripheral groove which engages rollers 11, 12 on a disc 1 having apertures 2. The rollers 12 are spring-pressed against the frames 7, and at the junction of the pivoted arms 13 on which they are mounted are guide rollers 15. A moving chain 16 passing round the frames 7 and rollers 15 rotates the disc, to change the exhibited transparency, when the disc is released, a ball bearing 5 being provided to ensure that the rotational friction of the disc 1 is less than that of the frames 7. When the disc is held, however, the frames are all rotated. each about its own axis. The holding and releasing means for the disc 1 comprise a spring-pressed pawl 2R which engages notches 29 in the rim of the disc. The pawl is depressed at intervals by projections 24 on a continuously rotating worm wheel 23.
