Abstract

Cigarette-making machines.-A heating-device for drying the seams in continuous-rod machines comprises a heating-element 1 having a series of teeth 1<a> extending into corresponding transverse slots 1<b> in the folder 11 of the rod-forming mechanism, so as to bear upon the overlapping edges of the cigarette paper. As shown, the element 1, which may be heated electrically, is mounted in a cylindrical casing 2 bolted to an arm 4 mounted upon a spindle 5 adjusted upon a standard 6 by means of an adjusting-screw 7. A second heater may be arranged in line with the first, a projection 13, Fig 3, on the spindle of the second heater being in engagement with a pin 15 on the spindle of the first heater, so that movement of the second heater moves the first heater out of engagement with the cigarette rod. In a modification, the heating-element of the first heater comprises a series of spaced metallic discs extending into the slots 1<b>, and the discs may be rotated to sweep over the overlapping edges of the paper.
