Glue.-In a process of obtaining glue in powder or flake form from the skins, pectoral and other fins, cuttings or waste from fish such as the plagiostomi, the material, after washing to remove solid impurities, is dissolved in a tank at not above 80‹ C. to produce a viscous fluid from which further impurities are skimmed off, the fluid is evaporated in vacuo until it contains about 70 per cent of water, and the reduced fluid is agitated to convert it into a frothy mass which is dried in vacuo to produce glue flakes. To produce powdered glue the agitation is carried further before drying and the product is crushed, or the flake glue is pulverized. The agitation may be effected by the injection of compressed air, and the drying is preferably ejected in vacuum apparatus comprising a drum, heated by steam passing through its hollow axle, and located in a vacuum chamber.
