Abstract
284,477. Thompson, J. W. Feb. 12, 1927. Trees.-A device for insertion in boots and shoes to facilitate cleaning comprises three levers 1, 10 ,7, Fig. 3, each pivotally connected at 6, 11 or 8 to the other two, and operated by handles 4, 5, so as to extend toe and heel engaging elements 2, 12 into the shoe. The toe engaging element 2 is pivoted to the lower end of the lever 1 by a pin 13 passing through a split stud 14, Fig. 4, pivotally and slidably connected to the element by another pin 15 on the stud 14 engaging a longitudinal slot in the element 2. Pivotally connected at 17 to the attachment 2 are two over. lapping plates 18 provided with arcuate slots 19 through which the pin 15 passes. On the forward movement of the pin 15, the plates 18 are expanded to cause their outer upturned edges to grip the sides of the toe. In use, the attachment 2 is pushed into the toe so as to expand the plates 18. The handles 4, 5 are then gripped to swing the lever 10 about the pivot 11 to cause the member 12 to engage the heel.
