Abstract
283,298. Collins, A. D. Oct. 16, 1926. Compound bottles; gum and like bottles.-In liquid receptacles provided with a liquid-retaining compartment or sump filled by the tilting of the receptacle and adapted for the insertion of a pen, brush, or the like, the sump or a portion thereof is made resilient so that it will spring outwards after insertion into the receptacle and engage the interior thereof to lock the sump in position. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the sump 12, which is preferably made of celluloid, is formed with slots 21 to give resilience and enable a rim 19 to spring into a slot 20 in the bottle neck. The sump is filled through the slot 22. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the rim is replaced by a beading 30 which engages beneath the neck of the bottle and the sump is filled through the slots 21, an enlargement 29, being provided in the neck of the bottle to ensure complete filling of the sump when the bottle is turned back into the upright position. In other modifications, the top edge of the sump engages under a shoulder formed in the neck of the bottle, and the bottom of the sump, which, is made conical in form, does not reach to the bottom of the receptacle.
