Apparatus for making filaments.-A drawing- device for use in the dry spinning of artificial threads, is provided with a pair of drawing- rollers 6, 7, rotating in opposite directions and at the same or different speeds, and adapted to be adjusted in position in such a manner that the drawing or stretching of the threads and also the length of travel of the threads in the spinning chamber may be varied. For instance they may occupy such positions as are indicated in Figs. 3 and 4. The distance between the rollers may also be adjustable so as to vary the length subjected to the drawing-effect. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the rollers 6, 7 are carried by shafts 8, 9, supported at the ends of an arm 10 adapted to be rocked about a central bearing as by means of a worm 14, worm-wheel 11, and handle 15, the rollers are driven by means of a belt 17 passing over pulleys 18, 19 and a central driving pulley 20. In another construction, the rollers are mounted in brackets 24, Fig. 6, which by means of slots in the side of casing, can be placed in the desired positions. At the points where the rollers contact with the bunch of filaments, they are preferably provided with a central ridge, formed by the junction of two truncated cones placed base to base; and in cases where several spinning units are arranged to be operated together the rollers are extended in length and profiled to give the effect of a series of ridges, and are mounted in a pivoted frame in place of the pivoted arm. The threads after leaving the rollers, pass down a thread guide 4, Fig. 2, and are collected in a. centrifuge 5; the bowl of the centrifuge is provided with fine perforations by means of which, due to the high speed of rotation, a vacuum is established within the bowl and which by inducing a current of air down the guide 4, serves to lead the threads into the bowl.
