Abstract
282,293. Apex Electrical Manufacturing Co., (Assignees of Racklyeft, J. W.). Feb. 10, 1927, [Convention date]. Ironing-machines with rollers rotating against concave surfaces.-One end of the roller 3 of a Decoudun rotates on a ring 48, Fig. 6, which is pivoted at 49 to the stationary frame 27 and the other end is secured to a stub-shaft 54 which is connected by a universal joint 64 to a shaft 62 driven from the motor driven shaft 37 through a clutch and chain gearing. The stub-shaft is carried in a bearing 53 in a bracket 52 pivoted to an arm 50 which is secured to a tube 29 enclosing the shaft 62 and rigidly secured to the stationary frame. Movement of the roller towards and away from the bed is derived from the shaft 37 and controlled by the operator through a clutch which when thrown in causes the roller bearings 53, 48 to swing to positions eccentric of the stationary tube 29. For this purpose there are provided two parallel rods 67, 74, Fig. 8, interconnected by springs and extending respectively between the ring 48 and an arm 66, Fig. 6, fixed to the bearing 53 and between an arm 73, Figs. 5 and 8, pivoted to the stationary tube and an arm 70 fixed to a rock shaft 69, Fig. 5, carried in a bearing on the tube 29. The shaft 69 is rocked from the shaft 37 through a linkage 98, 71 and a crank disc 95 forming part of the clutch controlled by the operator from a lever 106 having a padded end 108 for actuation by the operator's knee. The clutch 111 in the transmission from the shaft 37 to shaft 62 is normally spring- pressed into' gear, but is thrown out, when the roller is moved away from its bed, by means of a cam 120 on the crank disc 95 engaging a lever operatively connected to the spring-pressed frame 114 carrying the clutch. The roller is thus always maintained stationary when out of contact with the bed and is normally rotated when engaging the bed, but provision is made for the clutch 111 to be actuated independently by the operator to disconnect the drive and maintain the roller stationary when in contact with the bed. The frame 7 of the bed 2 is carried by legs 8, 9 of which the front pair pass through slots in the table 1 and are secured by a latch operated from a lever 17. The whole apparatus is pivotally carried by a support 133.
