Stoning fruit.-In a fruit stoning or seeding machine of the type wherein the fruit is passed between a pin-roller and an opposing rubber roller, the hopper 1 is provided with a water tank 2 having a filling-opening 3 and a valve 5 regulating the outlet 4. A stirrer 7, formed as a ring with a diametral bar 8, is situated in the outlet of the hopper, the fruit falling on to an inclined shoot 11 having a plain portion 12, beneath the hopper, leading to a corrugated portion 13 having end members 19 resting on cams which thereby vibrate the shoot to spread the fruit in a single layer thereon. The shoot is pivoted to a member 15 adjustably secured by a screw 16 to an upright 17. The pin roller consists of a number of spaced pin discs, and comb-members 24 are retained between the discs by a crossrod 27 carried by end-plates 26 slotted to engage a cross-rod 28 carried by the side plates 29 of the supporting frame. The lower halves of the bearings of the shaft 21 are formed on the plates 20 and the upper halves on a cover-plate 31. The rubber roller 25 is journaled in bearing blocks 34 adjustable in slots 32 in the plates 29 by a screw 36 and hand-wheel 39. The screw 36 has a collar 40 and revolves in a slot 37 in the end 38 of the frame. The slots 32 and 37 are closed by a cover-plate 41 which has an aperture for the roller 25 and has an upstanding guard 42. The fruit fall on the shoot 45 and pass to a receptacle 46, whilst the seeds are scraped from the pins by a scraper which may be formed by an upstanding part of the shoot 45, and from the roller 25 by a scraper 43 into a receptacle 47. The cover 41 has depending lugs 53 at the ends of the space between the pin discs and the roller 25, to prevent the fruit from escaping at the ends.
