Abstract
281,276. Schmidt, K. Nov. 29, 1926, [Convention date]. Bottles, jars, and the like, washing.-In a machine of the type in which the pressing into position of a drinking-glass turns on a supply of washing water which drives rotary brushes, for external and internal cleaning of the glass, by means of a water wheel, the rotation of the wheel is transmitted to the brushes through a countershaft and the washing water is directed into and over the glass. As shown, a feed pipe 2 and an injection pipe 3 are arranged above a valve casing 1 housing a spiral spring 7 and a conical valve 8 adapted to close a port 27. At the front of the casing is rotatably mounted a hollow shaft 9 carrying a loosely-mounted water-wheel 11 and a pinion 10 which is fast on the shaft and is operatively connected, through gearing on a countershaft 13, with a pinion 12 on the wheel 11. A hollow stem 20 supporting the bristles of a brush and a presser member 18 with a reduced end for engaging the valve 8 are adapted to slide on the shaft 9. A glass being cleaned is passed over the bristles carried by the stem 20, and between brushes 17 carried by an apertured disc 14 mounted on the shaft 9. The washing water after impinging on the blades 22 of the waterwheel is guided, by means of a funnel 21 and a hood 28 with a baffle plate 24, to the inside and outside of the glass 25.
