Abstract
280,526. Atkins, J. F., and irvine, H. S. Nov. 12, 1926, [Convention date]. Derricks; transferring and paying- out between elevated supports; grabbuckets.-A grab 4 is raised by a winch 6 and rope 8, and the weight is then transferred to a hanger 12 suspended from an inclined rope 7, so that on paying out the rope 8 the hanger swings with the grab to a position over the discharging point whilst the rope 8 remains under tension. When the hanger 12 reaches the lowest position, further paying out of the rope 8 opens the grab. As shown, the derrick 2 is stationary and the suspension rope 7 passes over a head-sheave 3a on a derrick 3 which is slued by the load between positions determined by guy-ropes 57, 56. The ring 5 co-operating with hook 42 in the grab-head is suspended by chains from the hanger 12. The hook 42, Figs. 10 and 13, is provided with a shaped slot 44 cooperating with a button on the lifting chain, and is kept in position for engagement with the ring by a spring 51. Slings.-The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the use of slings in place of grabs.-This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
