Abstract
280,432. Kienzle, A. E. Aug. 11, 1926. Coffee preparations ; coffee substitutes.-A product for use as an addition to or substitute for coffee is obtained by dividing sugar cane into chips, discs, &c., which are roasted or burnt to produce caramel, the chips &c. being reduced to powdered form either before or after roasting. When the grinding takes place before roasting &c., the flour obtained may be graded and the finest portion, which is richest in sugar, employed for the roasting, the coarser constituents being used as fodder &c. When the chips &c. are ground after roasting, the product may be sifted to separate the coarse fibrous ingredients. The ground product is preferably again ground very fine, and may be compressed into cubes which may be given a suitable coating.
