Abstract

Cans; bodies.-Relates to the attachment of strengthening bands to metal articles such as milk cans, the constructions shown relating to the attachment of the breast band to a milk can. In the form shown in Figs. 1, 5, and 6, the breast band 2 is formed with a. series of slots 4, preferably of elongated form, and the body of the can has welded or otherwise secured to it a corresponding number of projectjions 5. The band is first cranked or bent as shown in Fig. 5 to enable it to ride downwards over the projections, the cranked portion being subsequently flattened or restored to shape as shown in Fig. 6. In the form shown in Figs. 10 and 11, the band 2 is grooved at 8 and the part of the can body which carries the projection 5 is forced inwardly to enable the band to be applied, and subsequently brought back to its original position. Various forms of grooves and projections are described, including that of a bayonet socket the entrance of which is closed after application of the band.
