Abstract

Printing-apparatus.-Negative registering apparatus, for use in connection with a step-and-repeat printing machine of the kind wherein the negative and source of light are stationary and the sensitive surface is displaceable into different printing positions, comprises a negative holder carrying adjusting devices, and a registering frame having surfaces corresponding to those with which the adjusting devices coact when the negative holder is in place in the printing machine, so that when the negative holder has been centred in the registering frame by manipulating the adjusting devices, it will be correctly centred when transferred to the printing machine. In the form shown, the negative holder 8, when in the printing machine, is supported by a frame 6, Fig. 4, in turn supported by a slide 1 movable on a guide rail 3 into and out of operative position on the base 2 of the machine. The slide also includes a frame 22 having adjusting screws 24 for levelling the negative. On each side of the holder 8 is provided a pair of adjusting screws 10 for centering the holder in the frame 6, and this frame carries similar screws 12 for centering it in the slide 1. The auxiliary registering frame 15 is provided with stops 16, 17 corresponding to the stops 11 on the frame 6 engaged by the adjusting screws 10. A frame 19 is detachably secured by pins 20 to the registering frame 15 and carries cross lines marking the centre of this frame. After centering the negative holder in the frame 15 by adjusting the screws 10 with respect to the stops 16, 17, the screws 10 on two adjacent sides are locked by nuts 18, and the holder may be removed from the frame 15 by loosening the remaining adjusting screws 10. After transfer to the frame 6 on the printing machine, the loosened screws are tightened until all the screws bear against the stops 11 on the frame 6, and the holder is then correctly registered in the slide 1.
