Taps.-In a serew-cutting tap having two stages of cutters, the preliminary stage of which leaves a surplus of material over the whole thread profile for removal of the final stage, the preliminary teeth 2 have a core diameter which is uniform and is less than the bore of the hole which is being threaded. The teeth on the preliminary stage 2 have the same flank angle as the thread being cut and leave a surplus of material 4 to be removed by the final stage 5.
