Abstract
276,464. Siemens Bros. &. Co., Ltd., and Salmon, L. G. June 15, 1926. Thermometers. - A resistance for an electric thermometer is so mounted that it is not stressed on contraction or expansion. For this purpose the resistance, which is of insulated wire freely exposed to the air, is wound in coils supported at a few points only. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 2, the wire b is wound into a double loop supported by collars c on a rod d, one of the collars being fixed and the other sliding freely on the rod. Combinations of several such loops, including the winding of the wire in globular form, are described. Fig. 3 shows a wire wound in basket form on a former indicated by the dotted lines, which is afterwards removed. The wire is supported on an insulating spider e with serrated edges. The coils may also be supported by flexible cords. The wire may be wound non-inductively.
