Abstract

Mattresses.-In an electrically heated mattress of the kind in which the heating element comprises a resistance wire encased in a flexible fireproof covering, the heating element is mounted on a canvas or like backing which is embedded in the padding material of the mattress. The resistance wire A, enclosed in asbestos a, may be secured to the canvas backing B by tape a<1> sewn to the backing at a<2>, and the whole heating element is embedded in the stopping S of the ma.ttress, Fig. 4. An electrical cut-out may be introduced to break the circuit at a predetermined temperature, and a lamp or other indicator may be provided to show whether the current is " on " or " off."
