Abstract

274,907. Furness, G. C. July 23, 1926, [Convention date]. Drawings to Specification. Dry cells, regenerating.-The life and energy output of intermittently used dry cells are augmented by passing therethrough a reversed current, insufficient to cause damage, in the rest periods. The reversed current may be applied after the first or after a number of discharge periods but before the major part of the energy output of the cell has been discharged. The current used is considerably smaller than the safe discharge current. The amount of energy supplied is preferably in excess of that discharged up to the time, and is greater when the discharge rate is low. Manual or automatic switches may be provided to connect the cell in turn to the load and the reversed current source.
