Abstract

274,723. Naamlooze Vennootschap Reclamophoon - Maatschappij, and Drukker, J. Jan. 5, 1927. Driving; feed and return. mechanism.-In talking machines for advertising purposes of the kind in which a series of recorded announcements are successively reproduced, the machine being started for each announcement by the opening of a door and stopped automatically after reproduction of the announcement, the machine is electrically driven and a rotary drum driven intermittently and carrying conducting strips coacting with brushes connected with studs which are contacted by a finger on the sound box effects the stopping, the positioning of the parts for restarting, and, finally, the return of the sound box to starting position. The mandrel 9, Fig. 2, of the record cylinder is driven by a belt from an electric motor arranged below and carrying a governor, and the feed screw for the sound box is driven by gears 11, 12 from the mandrel. A spring finger 20 extending from the sound box carrier 14 is arranged to bear successively on a row of contacts 21 individually connected as shown to brushes a, b, c - - t, u, Figs. 8 and 9, bearing on a a drum 22 carrying conducting strips and shown developed in Fig. 8. Other brushes A, B - - F bearing on the drum 22 are connected as shown with the current mains 36 and the motor and stator windings of the motor. A solenoid 28 is arranged in the circuit from brush a to a transformer 35, and a switch 34 actuated by the opening of a door in the circuit from brush b to the transformer. Initially the drum is positioned with the generator line d contacting the brushes, and opening of the door closes switch 34 whereby the solenoid 28, Fig. 5, is excited and its core 26 moved against a spring 29 to turn a ratchet wheel 24 on the drum so as to move it to position B : circuits including connections M are thereby completed so that the machine is driven and reproduces an announcement, after which the finger 20 contacts the next stud and again excites the magnet 28 to turn the drum, whereupon the motor is stopped until the switch 34 is again closed by the opening of the door. After the last announcement, the subsequent movement of the drum by the magnet to the position l completes circuits through stud t<1>, brush t<1>, and the drum, whereby the motor is reversed and the soundbox is raised by a pivoted spring-controlled switch tongue and carried back along an upper track to starting position with the finger contacting stud u<1> which, through brush u and the drum, completes circuits including conductors M<1> for turning the drum to starting position and stops the motor.
