Abstract

274,612. Edge, S. F., and A. C. Cars, Ltd. June 3, 1926. Cone and disc; force-transmitting mechanism.-In a disc brake for a motor vehicle wheel comprising a disc or ring 18 attached to the wheel and a floating disc or ring 17 of fibre, the latter is adapted to be pressed against the disc 18 by a brake or operating disc 1 having a limited movement connection with the axle-tree and moved by lever mechanism against the action of a spring or resilient means. The brake disc 1 is carried on spring plates 2 supported by an end plate 3 of the stub shaft carrier and is actuated through torque pins 5, Fig. 2, engaged by levers 6 pivoted on the plate 3. The free ends 7 of the levers are universally jointed to a compensating bar 8 connected at the centre by a brake actuating cable 9 which is led over a pulley 10. This pulley is on the axle-tree 4 and is preferably disposed with its axis forwardly of the front wheel pivots 14, and the interior of the nipple 12 through which the cable passes is provided with a flared bush 15, and so curved and positioned in relation to the axis 14 and pulley 10, that when the wheel is deflected in one direction the cable 9 is tightened, whilst when deflected in the opposite direction it is slackened. The Provisional Specification states that the cable may be altered in length when the wheel is deffected by the bending of the cable in the bush 12 or a combination of the foregoing constructions may be employed.
