Abstract
274,415. Marek, J., and Ember, A. July 15, 1926, [Convention date]. Battery lamps; multiple-filament lamps.-The socket 1 of a bulb-holder of insulating material is rotatably mounted and is retained against longitudinal movement by snap springs 9, 10 engaging in notches in its outer surface, some, of these notches penetrating completely through the socket, as at 7, 8a, Figs. 1 and 4, and others being less deep, as at 7, 8b, and the springs are connected to one pole of the source of current, so that the circuit through the bulb 3 may be made and broken by rotating the bulb and the socket 1 to bring the springs into the notches 7a or 7b &c. The springs may be permanently secured to the zinc electrode 15 of a battery cell, as shown in. Fig. 7, the cover 16 of the cell being extended upwards to house, the springs and carry a bearing 6 to receive, the socket 1. If the battery contains more than one cell the cover mav be closed by two discs 18, 19, Figs. 12 and 13, between which the springs 9, 10 are held, one end of the springs being anchored at 20 and the other projecting from the casing at 21, so that by pressing upon this end the springs may be expanded out of the notches 7 to release the socket 1 when the battery is exhausted. To form a dashlamp for motor vehicles, the socket 1 is combined with a shutter sleeve 26, Figs. 14 and 15, having clear and coloured windows 27, 27 adapted to be registered with an aperture 29 in an outer fixed sleeve 28. The retaining springs 9, 10 project at both ends from the casing to enable the sleeve 26 to be released. For use with a, pocket battery, the springs 9, 10 and the socket 1 may be permanently mounted in a cap 23, Fig. 16, adapted to be fitted over the battery. The bulb 3 may be fitted with several filaments for alternative use, the filaments being individually connected to corresponding contacts 32, Fig. 17, arranged around the bulb cap. A contact 33 projecting from the spring 10 engages selectively with the contacts 32 to enable any of the filaments to be brought into use by rotating the bulb.
