Control mechanism.-A twist grip control device for Bowden and like mechanism comprises a saddle 8 partly surrounding and slidable along a handle bar 2 or other plain supporting member, its edges being engaged by a guide bar or bars 10 the ends of which are located in supporting collars 3 for the ends of the twist grip sleeve 6, a helical slot 12 in the saddle being engaged by a peg 13 or other device carried or actuated by the twist grip. A single control device is shown in Fig. 1, a duplex control in Fig. 4. The Bowden or like cable 14, external to the handle bar, is passed through one of the collars 3 and attached by the usual nipple 15 to the saddle. In Fig. 1, the saddle extends almost completely round the handle bar, its edges engaging a single guide bar 10. In Fig. 2, a pair of semi-cylindrical saddles are located on opposite sides of a pair of guide bars and are independently actuated by twist sleeves 6, 19 arranged end to end, preferably with a stepped or spigot abutment 19<a> to provide mutual support. Instead of the peg 13, a ball may .engage helical slots formed both in the saddle and the twist grip sleeve, the slots being of the same or of different inclinations. In order to retain the sleeve in adjusted positions, a spring pressed ball or plunger 22, Fig. 6, may be housed in one of the collars 3 to engage notches &c. in the plain or flared end of the sleeve 6. Alternatively, the edge of the helical slot 12 corresponding to the direction of pull may be notched at intervals. In Fig. 10, a frictional retaining device is shown, comprising a spring blade 24 secured at the end 26 in a recess 25 in the saddle and bearing against the inner surface of the twist grip sleeve.
