Abstract
273,449. Callender's Cable & Construction Co., Ltd., and Kay, C. W. May 26, 1926. Systems of supporting conductors; insulators. - In a catenary suspension system for electric conductors, the catenary wire A, Figs. 1 and 3, is made of insulated steel cable. The conductor wire H is suspended from the catenary wire, preferably with the interposition of a messenger wire F to which it is connected by short links H', by members G each provided with an intermediate insulator J of the interlinked type. The suspension members are attached to clamps G<1> mounted on sleeves G<2> embracing the catenary wire which is supported on poles or bridge members by insulators D, Fig. 6, formed of porcelain and provided with two grooves D' in one of which rests the catenary, the other being occupied by the rib E<1> on a cover E, the arrangement being adapted to permit the mounting of a new wire before the old one is removed. To provide the usual zig-zag arrangement of the conductor, cross-wires K, Fig. 2, also of insulated cable are suspended between opposite side posts and are connected to the messenger wire or conductor by ties L, preferably with an intermediate insulator L<1>. A test wire M, parallel with the track and in electrical connection with the cross-wires is mounted on a two-unit suspension insulator M'.
