Abstract

Toothed wheels.-Relates to means for ensuring a firm connection between the metallic hub of a gear wheel and the body, which is built up from'textile fibres held under compression by a binder, preferably in the form of layers of woven fabric cut from sheets which 'have been impregnated with binder and treated to remove the solvent. Spiral gear wheels secured to the crankshafts in automobile timing-trains are specially referred to. The cylindrical steel hub 5 is knurled or otherwise tooled to form rough surfaces 6, and axial and annular grooves 8, 10 are cut. The fabric layers 4 are cut with a central hole bounded by serrations 13 greater in number that the axial grooves 8 the least diameter of the hole being slightly less than that of the hub. The layers are lightly forced to position and the wheel is subjected to pressure and heat.
