Abstract
272,543. Boehringer, A., (trading as Boehringer, Sohn, C. H.). March 8, 1926, [Convention date]. A.ddition to 253,918. Disinfectants and antiseptics; bacteria, cultivating; medicinal preparations.-Disinfectants, for instance for treating mucous membranes, are prepared from organic acids, such as tartaric, citric, oxalic, malic, and pyroracemic, or from mixtures of lactic acid with these acids or with acetic acid or its homologues, by processes similar to those described in the parent Specification for lactic acid so as to obtain solutions of a desired low hydrogen ion concentration. According to an example, 84 gms. of citric acid are dissolved in 1 litre of water and a solution of 32 gms. of caustic soda in 1 litre of water is added thereto. To this solution 1¢ litres of N/10 hydrochloric acid are added. The solution has a pH value of 3. Other ingredients which may be added are disinfectants, such as silver or mercury salts, fluorides, phenols, cresols, and disinfectant colouring matters, bacteriological nutrients, such as albumens, peptone, glycogen, milk sugar, and glucose, odoriferous substances such as oil of neroli and oil of pine, and suspensions of lactic acid bacteria. The preparations may be put up as liquids, or in capsules, or may be rendered semi-solid by the addition of gelatine with or without glycerine, or may be dried on an inert powder such as bolus. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also examples according to which (1) mercuric oxide is dissolved in lactic acid which is then partly neutralized with caustic soda, and (2) a warm solution of lactic acid containing calcium lactate is added to a warm solution of gelatine and t'he mixture allowed to solidify. Glycerine may also be added to this mixture. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
