Abstract

272,150. Dingwall, G. H. April 4, 1927. Steering-mechanism. - An invalid's tricycle chair has a single front road wheel 9 adapted to be deflected for steering by a movable support or rest 14 adapted to be engaged by the back of the occupant, the arrangement being such that the front wheel 9 is deflected in the same sense as the back support, whereby the chair runs in the direction of inclination of the occupant's body. The back support 14 is carried by an arm 15 mounted on a pillar 16, which rotates in brackets 17, 18 and is provided with a laterally-projecting lever arm 20, linked by a rod 21 to a lever arm 22 on the front wheel fork 8. The steering movement may be magnified by increasing the length of the lever 20 relatively to that of the lever 22. The arm 15 may be extended beyond the pillar 16 and provided with a handle 26, by means of which the chair can be simultaneously pusted and steered.
