Abstract
271,146. British Synthetics, Ltd., and Higgins, E. B. Feb. 17, 1926. Addition to 262,958. Arylamides of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid. - The process of the parent Specification is extended to the preparation of acid-substituted arylamides from acid-substituted aromatic amines and 2: 3- oxynaphthoyl chloride by interaction in presence of a weak alkali; any of the three methods of working set forth in the parent Specification may be employed. According to examples (1) mnitraniline is mixed to a paste with sodium bicarbonate and a little water and a benzene solution of the oxynaphthoyl chloride added; (2) mnitro-p-toluidine or 2 : 5-dichloraniline or sulphanilic acid is ground with sodium bicarbonate, further ground with the oxynaphthoyl chloride, and water added; (3) p-nitraniline is mixed with the oxynaphthoyl chloride with or without a solvent or diluent such as benzene and the mixture added to a paste of sodium bicarbonate and water. o-Bromaniline, 3-nitro-5-chlor-4-toluidine, 5-nitro-1-naphthylamine, 1-naphthylaminemonosulphonic acids, and 2-naphthylamine-6-sulphonic acid are also specified as parent materials.
