Infusers; tea preparations.-An infuser for individual portions of tea, coffee, &c., constructed so as to be practically non-refillable, has one of its linear dimension at least eight times as great as another linear dimension. The infuser is preferably made of thin impervious elastically-deformable material, such as metal, and may be perforated on the side or sides of greatest dimension. In one form, Figs. 1 and 2, the infuser 11, preferably of aluminium, has perforations 12, which may be in the form of signs or letters 18<1>. Corrugations 17 allow the infuser to become deformed on use, preventing reuse. The perforations may be sealed before use by dipping in melted sugar, gelatinous material from tea stalks, &c., chocolate, condensed milk, &c., which is then dried or cooled. The infusers may be built into column form and wrapped in aluminium or lead foil packages. The perforations may be round, square, triangular or slotshaped, and may be made just before use by means of tongs or rollers having perforated points, the tea or roasted coffee being hermetically sealed in the infuser when holding its maximum of flavour. In other forms, the infusers are rectangular, Fig. 3, or tubular, Fig. 4, in shape. The tea in the infusers may be medicated by addition of carbonate or phosphate of soda, Glauber's salts, or other alkaline salts. or flavouring materials, the infuser being made of nickel foil, though aluminium may be used if it is kept dry until the infusion. The infusers preferably have their edges sealed, and where used with cups have the largest dimension smaller than that of the cup, so that they will not project therefrom.
