Counters actuated by reciprocating-mechanism. - A registering-mechanism is operated step by step as a setting-handle or like part is moved away from a zero position to one or another of a series of fixed positions, this movement being registered shortly after leaving one position and considerably before reaching the next. The mechanism is particularly designed for apparatus for measuring liquids, and is arranged so as to register half the quantity to be measured as the handle &c. is moved forwards from the zero position, and the other half during the return movement. Fig. 1 shows a mechanism wherein a setting-handle 106 adjusts a rack rod 104, 105, by means of which a quantity of liquid to be delivered is determined. The setting is determined by stops 120, 130. To enable the handle to pass the stops 120, it is made in two parts connected by a spring pivot 122. The stop 130 at the zero position prevents anti-clockwise rotation of the setting-handle, and clockwise rotation from the zero position is prevented by a spring stop which projects through the dial and engages in a recess in the arm 106. It may be withdrawn manually through an aperture in the underside of the casing. The registration is effected by a totalizing-counter 140 of the cyclometer type, actuated by a step-by-step ratchetwheel 146, with twenty teeth, levers 152, 156, and a disc 160 on the edge of which is a series of V-shaped notches 162, into which, as the disc is rotated by the arm 106, drops the end 158 of the lever 156. Since the disc 160, when rotated in either direction, actuates the counter, one half of the quantity sold will be registered in the clockwise movement of the arm 106, and the other half in the reverse movement. A cam 174 on the spindle 100 and a rod or lever 176 may be used to lock or unlock the liquid-supply mechanism. After the arm 106 and the rod 105 have been set, a controlling part of the liquid-supply mechanism is held out of a predetermined position, and the rod 176 is held against a nat 180 on the cam and prevents rotation of the arm 106. For fine adjustment, the stops 120 are eccentrically mounted.
