270,070. Boardman, R. V. April 9, 1926. Are lamps.-Horizontal carbons are suspended from roller carriages c running on horizontal rods d. Two or more pairs of carbons, adapted for connection either in series or parallel or in parallel series, may be arranged side-by-side and all adjusted simultaneously so that the arcs are maintained in a constant position relatively to the lamp or its reflector. The carbons a<1>, a<2> are supported by screw-operated clamps b secured to the roller carriages c. The horizontal guides d are preferably square rods. Bell-cranks f connect the carriages c of each pair of carbons to a separate vertically-sliding frame g. On each frame g is a vertical rod h engaged by a ring clutch i. The clutches are linked to a single lever j, which is operated by hand or by a solenoid p and may be provided with an adjustable stop k and an adjustable counterweight j<1>. Hand-operation may be effected by means of a Bowden cable. Terminals o<1>, o<2> connected to the carbons allow of the alteration of the circuit arrangements according to the voltage available and the number of arcs required. The lamp is suitable for electrotherapeutic purposes, kinematograph film making, photo process work, copying, &c.
