Abstract

269,671. Drabble, H. Jan. 22, 1926. Lantern fronts; gratings mounted in lantern fronts. -A front glass for a vehicle lamp comprises superposed horizontal glass strips 1 bevelled over a part of their front faces as at 2, over a part of their rear faces as at 3, or both, reflecting surfaces being formed between the strips by silvering them or by loosely piling them to leave intermediate thin films of air. Parts of both faces may be bevelled at equal angles, the bevelling finishing at the centre of each face, or the rear faces may be left vertical and the bevelling on the front faces carried down below half way. The strips are preferably mounted between plain glass protecting plates 4, 5 and held by means of a retaining ring 8 within a recessed metal ring 6 having a flange 7 for mounting it within the lamp. According to the Provisional Specification the separate strips may be replaced by a one-piece glass moulded with metal reflecting strips, and the retaining ring may be replaced by a second recessed ring.
