Abstract

269,581. Boyadjian, J. April 16, 1926, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect 91 of the-Acts]. Printing processes; stereotype.-A stereotype matrix is provided with two superposed impressions so that from the stereotype plate cast therefrom, two superposed impressions, such as the ordinary text of a newspaper and an advertisement, may be printed simultaneously. In one method of preparing the matrix, the flong is pressed upon the forme comprising the text and is then further impressed with an original of the advertisement &c., the second impression not being sufficiently heavy to render the print of the first impression illegible. In a second method, a thin flexible sheet of lead, copper, wire gauze, or other flexible suitable material cut to the form of the advertisement &c. is placed on the forme comprising the text and the flong is then pressed thereon. Under the pressure the flexible sheet is moulded on to the type matter in the forme and the corresponding portions of the flong become more deeply impressed than the remaining portions. The plate cast therefrom will therefore print the advertisement &c. in a darker colour. In a third method, a sheet cut to form the advertisement &c. is placed between the blanket and the press head of the matrix press. The corresponding parts of the flong are thus less deeply impressed with the type matter in the forme and the advertisement is consequently printed in a lighter colour. In a fourth method an impression of the advertisement is made upon an unimpressed flong in a fatty ink on which powdered emery glass, pumice stone &c. is caused to adhere. When the impression is dry, the flong is pressed upon the forme. The parts coated with powder receive a less deep impression than the remaining portions.. In a further method, the flong is perforated in accordance with the design of the advertisement, which is thereby formed on the stereotype plate in dotted lines.
