Abstract

269,505. Anode Rubber Co., Ltd. April 14, 1926, [Convention date]. Latex, treating.-In the electrophoretic deposition of rubber &c., the liberation of gas at the cathode is prevented, for example, by means of an oxidizing depolarizing agent such as lead peroxide. A lead cathode may be coated with peroxide by the usual storage battery process, and when spent may be reoxidized. Apparatus for the production of inner tubes comprises a twopart annular mould 11<a>, 11<b>, lined with zinc, or a porous depositing surface, forming an anode, and a cathode 1 consisting of a split ring attached to a spindle 7 passing through an insulating stuffing- box 8 on the anode. The cathode 1 preferably consists of a perforated iron pipe coated with lead the surface of which has been converted into peroxide. To prevent crumbling, the cathode may be covered with a layer permeable to liquids, such as gelatine. In operation, the mould is filled with a rubber, gutta &c. dispersion, which may be vulcanized, through the hollow spindle 7 and cathode 1 until the overflow 9 is reached. If desired, circulation of the liquid may be maintained. A current is passed through the latex &c., and when a sufficient thickness of rubber is deposited, the mould is swung into the position shown in broken line about a horizontal spindle, the liquid is drained off, and a drying current of hot air is passed through the spindle 7, and escapes at 9. Specification 223,189 is referred to.
