Abstract

269,495. O'Hara, S. April 17, 1926, [Convention date]. Offset machines; intaglio-plate printing.-A machine for printing impressions from an intaglio steel die or plate on frangible articles, in which impressions from the die are printed on a resilient offset printing-surface covered with gelatine and are transferred therefrom to the frangible article mounted on a work support, is constructed with a plurality of printing-surfaces which are simultaneously operated so as to bring one surface into contact with an inked die and another surface which has already been printed on into contact with the article to be printed. As shown, two printing-surfaces 16 are mounted on a stem 14 carried by a plunger 12 reciprocated in a guide in a frame 10 by an eccentric 15. The stem 14 is formed with diametrically opposite notches 18 with bevel faces engaged by spring-pressed pins 19 which cause the pads 17 to register respectively with an adjustable workholder 36, and an intaglio die 26 all carried by a reciprocating slide operated by a rack and pinion 27, 28 to move the die under inkng and wiping devices 30, 32, to ink and wipe the die between successive descents of the printing-surfaces. After each printing operation the operator moves the stem 14 through half a revolution by pressing on one of the arms 15 as a lever, and the rotation is stopped when the pins 19 engage the notches 18.
