Disinfecting and deodorizing air. - Air for ventilating purposes, or for supply to hospital wards, or food storage chambers, is passed through suitable treating chambers 2, 3, 4, shown in plan, and the air propelling means consists of two fans or pumps 5, 17, one of which is disposed outside of said treating chambers and is adapted for normal working, and the other is located within one treating chamber 4, and is for use alternatively or additionally to the exterior pump. The fan 5 may be adapted to rotate, when desired, a perforated cone 9 which dips into a trough 11 of deodorizing or oxygenating liquid, in order that a film of such liquid may be formed on the cone for the purpose of treating the air passing through the chamber 4. The other chambers 2, 3 may contain hygroscopic material, such as calcium chloride, a sterilizing or fumigating agent, such as formaldehyde, or an agent for absorbing carbon dioxide. The chambers are connected to main pipes 15, 21, and all the chambers are inter-connected by pipes 25, 27, 29. Valves are provided on each of the pipes so that the air may be subjected to treatment in anv one or more of the chambers, or part of the air may pass through certain chambers and the rest through a different series of chambers. The treated air may pass from the pipe 22 into temperature-controlling apparatus, and thence to a pipe connected to the compartment being ventilated &c. The fan or pump 17 may be supplied with fresh air, or with air from the ventilated compartment. In one construction, the pump 17 may be arranged on the pipe 22. The apparatus may be arranged on a wheeled base, and disposed within the compartment. Certain of the chambers 2, 3, 4 may be connected with cylinders of oxygen, carbon dioxide, or other gas under pressure. Specification 217,117, [Class 55 (ii). Gas manufacture &c.], is referred to.
