Bevelling; lenses, grinding.-A machine for grinding or bevelling the edges of spectacle lenses &c., consists of a bed plate 3, which may be secured to an existing grinding-wheel 1 or form part of an integral machine, a dividing disc 6 being pivoted at 4, 5 to the plate and having pivoted thereto on a pin 7 a frame 8, 9 the part 9 being pivoted on a pin 10 to the part 8. The lens 15 is held between pads 22 on spindles 12, 13 rotatable in the frame 9 and driven, through gearing 19 - - 21 and a jointed shaft 17 from the grinding-wheel spindle. The spindle 13 is moved, against the pressure of a spring 14, by means of a lever to allow insertion or removal of a lens. The frame 8 may be locked in any annular position on the disc 6, and oscillation of the disc about the pivots 4, 5 ensures uniform wear of the grinding-face of the wheel 1. In operation, the frame is set to the angle of the bevel by means of a scale on the dividing disc 6, and is moved by hand by means of the lever 11 to give the required shape to the lens. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes a flexible shaft drive for the work. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
