Abstract

267,644. Diamond Coal-Cutter Co., Ltd., and Huggins, P. Jan. 1, 1926. Coils and conductors.-A slot-closing member of the type in which magnetizable elements extend across the member in the form of wires has the magnetizable wires included only in its surface layer or portion in contact with the air-qap of the machine, the remaining portion being unprovided with magnetizable material. In the form shown, the slot wedges are cut from a slab of material, the outermost layer of which comprises magnetizable wires e woven with strands e<1> of hemp or other insulating fibre. The back part consists of layers of woven strands e<2> of hemp or other fibre, and all the strands are embedded in an insulating substance e<3>, for example a synthetic phenol and formaldehyde product. The wires e may lie together side by side or they may be woven and may extend in one or more directions. They may be interwoven or interspersed with strands of insulating material of a lower layer. They may be made as single wires or bundles of fine wires twisted together, and the fine wires may be initially insulated, for example by enamelling or oxidizing.
