Abstract

267,002. Nichols, C. R. Dec. 1, 1925. Centrifugal machines.-A mechanism for rotating, hoisting and transporting moulds for centrifugally casting hollow bodies such as pipes formed of cementitious material, travels on an elevated trackway 1 and is provided with wheels 8 for rotating the moulds 7 by engagement with runner rims 9 thereon, the moulds being supported on pairs of idle rollers 6 mounted on a base 3. The mechanism runs on wheels 19 engaging the upper flanges of the rails 1, which are of channel section, and is propelled by driving gears 5 engaging a rack 4 on each lower flange. The wheels 8 are driven through a differential gear set 10, and a driving shaft from bevel gears enclosed in a chamber 25 on a shaft 14. The shaft 14 is driven by chains from a shaft 13 driven by a motor 12, and is controlled by a clutch 13<a>. The hoisting mechanism comprises a pair of arms 15 pivoted on the shaft 14 and bolted to the shaft 11 of the wheels 8. The arms 15 carry pivoted gear racks 17 engaging gears 18 which are driven from the shaft 13 and are controlled by a, clutch 26<a>. By rotating the gears 18, the mould 7 may be lifted off the rollers 6 by means of a cable 29<a>, and the pressure of the driving wheels 8 regulated. By clutching in the gears 5, the moulded article is then transferred to rails 29. In a modification, the gear rack 4 is mounted in the base 3. Specification 187,587 is referred to. The material for the pipe is preferably placed in the mould and distributed as described in Specification 266,807.
