Abstract

266,730. Eisenwerk-Ges. Maximiliansh³tte. Feb. 23, 1926, [Convention date]. Tempering.-A railway rail, still warm from the rolling mill and after sawing to length is placed on a roller track with the flange uppermost, and is then straightened by the mechanism that subsequently moves it and which is provided with tongs for subsequently clamping the rail and dipping the head into a quenching 'bath. The rail is then deposited on a warm bed for slow cooling so as to temper the head by the heat remaining in the interior thereof and in the web and tiange. A girder provided with a saddle c and tongs h is let down by the lifting gear a of a travelling crane operated electrically or by compressed air so as to straighten the rail on the track, and the rail is then gripped against the saddle by tongs h operated by mechanism b and is then lifted by the crane and dipped into the bath k. In Fig. 4. the rail is straightened by a member e which forces it off the track d against arms f on :a member which is rotatably mounted on a shaft i. The arms are provided with tongs h operated by compressed air to clamp the rail against the members f, whereupon the device is rotated so as to dip the rail head in the bath k and is then returned and the rail released at g and transferred to the cooling bed. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the clamping devices may be fitted into a long drum provided with wheels for travelling upon the rails. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
