Abstract

Rotary machines; printing-surfaces.-In handstamps of the roller type, adapted for the cancelling of postage stamps on parcels, bulky letters, &c., a set of adjustable type discs care rotata-bly mounted upon a sleeve d eccentrically secured within a roller casing a provided with end walls g, h held together by a screw i passing through the roller, the outer faces of the walls being provided with bosses r, q journalled within the arms S of an inverted U-shaped member. The type discs c are held in their set position by a pin m which extends through apertures k in the type discs into an aperture in the wall g of the roller casing, and is provided with a screw-threaded portion p and head o whereby it is screwed through the journal q and into the wall h of the casing. An adjustable crank t mounted on the journal r is connected to a spring u which ensures that the roller casing is normally in such a position that the set characters on the type discs are printed at the commencement of the rolling movement, and before other characters embossed upon the surface of the roller casing. An inking- roller v journaled in a yoke w pivoted upon the member S is normally held against the roller a by a spring x, an adjusting screiv y being provided to vary the pressure.
