Abstract
266,416. Vedder, W. Oct. 22, 1925. Pulverulent fuel, gas, and blowpipe burners.- A burner, particularly for inferior pulverulent fuel, comprises a central fuel supply pipe b, surrounded by three groups of spiral passages pl, p<2>, p<3>, communicating respectively with a chamber h having an inlet g, through ports q with a chamber d<1> having an inlet d, and with the atmosphere through inlets, formed in the end wall k of the casing a and controlled by a hit-and-miss valve m. To assist the combustion of the pulverulent fuel, the burner is supplied with a rich gas through the inlet g and with air through the valve w or with compressed air through the inlet d or it is supplied with a poor gas through the inlet d and with compressed air through the inlet g, the valve m being closed. The gas may be used alone, the tube b being closed. The passages p<1> are of smaller cross-sectional area than the passages p<2>, p<3>. The pulverulent fuel is given a whirling and spreading motion by means of downwardly and tangentially arranged passages t leading from the chamber h or by means of spiral ribs arranged between the flared end of the tube b and a central conical spreader. The lower nozzle portion of the casing a may be provided with a cooling jacket and may be fixed and terminate in a cylindrical portion having an inwardly directed flange at the outer end or it may be conical and terminate in a flared outlet A<2>. In the latter case, the bulged top A<1> of the jacketed nozzle A may be supported by a plate D, secured to a curved flange a<2> on the casing a, so that the nozzle may be swung in a plane by rotating a rod B, which is connected by a universal joint B<1> to the nozzle and is threaded through a nut C trunnionmounted in a bracket C<2> on the plate D. A second rod B may be provided for adjusting the nozzle in a plane at right angles.
