Abstract
265,352. Trist, A. R. Jan. 4, 1926. Printing-surfaces.-A plate for the preparation of an etched printing-surface is formed by electrolytically coating the flat surface of a metal base with a very thin firmly adherent layer of copper adapted without rolling, buffing, or other mechanical treatment, other than polishing, to form the metal printing-surface. When the plate is for use in a printing-press having a magnetic bed, iron is employed as the base metal. The plate may be prepared by grinding a sheet of iron or other suitable, metal on one or both sides to render it flat and clean, immersing it for two or three minutes as an anode in a 30 per cent solution of sulphuric acid supplied with a current of 200 ampÞres per square foot, removing and washing it, plating it with a thin layer of nickel, and finally depositing the copper upon it in a bath of copper sulphate, using a current of a suitable density to produce the requisite fineness and uniformity of grain.
