265,065. Dehn, F. B., (Merchant, F. D., and Kilgore, H. D.). July 12, 1926. Casting-machines.-A dental casting machine is provided with selfcontained air-compressing and vacuum-producing devices. After melting the metal in the cavity 11, and incidentally heating the air in a cylinder 24, a hand-lever 36 is moved down thus applying a cover 27 to the flask 8. Continued movement of the lever 36 causes the cylinder 24 to be forced down over the piston 25, against the action of a spring 32, the air in the cylinder passing through ducts 24 and forcing the metal into the mould. Preferably just before the cover 27 engages the flask a rod 46 carried by the lever 36 strikes the bottom of an axial hole 45<a> in an adjustable rod 45 connected through a lever 20 to a piston 19 which is thus moved down to evacuate the mould. The pressure and vacuum produced can be read on attached gauges and their relative values can be varied by adjusting the bolt 48, which is secured in the forked end of the rod 46, in one or other of the notches of a rack 49 formed in the lever 36. The bolt is retained in position by a leaf spring 51. The lever 36 is prevented from rising by a latch 35 engaging notches 22a in the sliding rod 22 which carries the cylinder 24. The cover 27 and plate 13 have dovetailed grooves 16, 33 filled with packing material and adapted to engage the edges of any flask used in the machine. Positioning rings 17 of required sizes are also used.
